Halloween Party 08 Director's Cut

OK, so now I am in the mood. Last night was the annual Halloween party, and it really got me psyched for my favorite holiday. I admit to being a bit off this year. What happened to all the cable channels having Halloween programming? Where’s all the vintage B&W movies on Turner Classic or AMC? Not even Discovery, TLC or even SciFi have much Hween programming. Last week, I got together with the guys to watch some horror flicks to get in the mood. We watched the original Last House on the Left and House of 1000 Corpses. I was disappointed in both. I’m jonesing to see Saw 5. But the party last night really picked me up. As much as I do love Hween, there is more to the story. And this one starts from last year.

Last year we were confident we had a slam dunk idea. But we had to dye some stuff. Fate would step in (as it will later on down the road) and killed our dryer, so we couldn’t go with our first choice, even though we had a bunch of stuff for it already. While that was a downer, it did result in me slutting up my wife as a cop, so it wasn’t all bad.

Flash to this year, and we are a bit ahead of the game. We have our idea, and we know what we have to do. The first thing is we need to find white stuff to dye. The easiest and most cost effective thing to get is thermal longjohns. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, surprisingly it isn’t. After checking the places you think would be obvious, I track down long under wear at Kmart of all places. And I literally get the last top and bottom that are my size. Seriously, what’s the run on longjohns here? I guess it’s huntin’s season or something, but this search took far more effort than I thought it would. And, OK, I do have a confession here. I did buy my shirt a size smaller. I did it because it was the only one they had, and it might, just might, make me look a bit more masculine. And when you’re wearing purple, it’s all about appearing masculine.

Next up was the dye itself. Again, this proved to be more difficult than I had planned. I did all kinds of searches for clothes dye and fabric dye at the obvious places (Walmart, Target, etc). But the one place I found the shade that was close to what we need was at an arts and crafts store. O man. Talk about swallowing your manly pride to go into one of these stores. I am totally lost. This place looks like it sells all the shit you see at the firehouse Xmas bazaar. I don’t think there is another dude in the store. Now I gotta wander over to the dye section. Did I mention the color I was looking for was purple? Yea, I should just leave my man card at the door. I find something that is close enough, and scurry out, hoping no one I know sees me.

I guess at this point, I should explain my philosophy on Halloween costumes. Basically, in most cases, but certainly not all, the more ghetto it is, the better it is. There are times and places when you can get a real expensive, fancy killer costume. But more often then not, it’s more creative and funny to make it on your own. I don’t care what you think, a real deal Batman costume pales in comparison to one made with Sharpies and duct tape. In fact, a proven Hween equation is the more duct tape on your costume, the more kick ass it is. Really, I didn’t make that one up; it’s one of Einstein’s lesser known theorems.

So we are all about doing this up ourselves. Plus, as it turns out, there is surprisingly no premade costumes for our idea. The only ones we’ve seen have been homemade affairs. Some were quite good, others were pretty damn ghetto. T uses her artistic side to draw up the iron ons we will need. She dyes the thermal stuff Weds night, and we get up at 5:30 the next morning to wring them out and run them through the wash. The color turns out pretty good. It is a bit pinker than my testicles would like, but hey, it is Hween. After the wash, I hang them out on the line to dry. I am sure that got the neighbors talking.

Next up is the accessories. This is where creativity and ghetto comes into play. Our idea wears purple boots and gloves with yellow trim. We handled the boots by getting purple and yellow soccer socks. We rip the yellow socks up and tuck them into the purple socks. Did I mention that it’s fairly hard to find purple and yellow socks? That leads us to the gloves. The idea here was to go with dish washing gloves. After visiting many locations that one would think would sell such items, the closest thing I could find was pink. Ok, so this adds to the ghetto factor that we have all these competing shades of purple.

Now it’s Friday, the day of the party. T comes back from this thing she has-it’s called a job or work or something?-and she is suddenly brimming with ideas. One of which is to nix my hard sought pink gloves. She says she will get yellow gloves and tape them with purple duct tape. She also creates the ’belts’ out of the purple duct tape and yellow felt. Our characters also have these funky collar things going on-they’re too cool for capes or something. She whips those out of purple foam. She even comes up with a cape for our monkey that is part of the costume. I don’t know what the hell she had to come up with all of this, but I hope she has it again when she does my birthday shopping.

As I take a shower, a brilliant idea hits me. There is something about my creative bursts that happen in the bathroom. Most of my brilliant ideas hit me either in the shower or on the shitter. Which is far better than having them hit me on the shower or in the shitter. So there I am in the shower, singing Sinatra, when it hits me. “Fuck! I should have gone as myself!” Remember a while back when I was in the paper for the brewfest. I wrote a whole klog about it, and the picture is on MySpace. I just should have gone as me! Wear the same stuff I had on in the picture, and copy and blow up the picture and tape it to my shirt. No muss no fuss, and bitingly creative. I mean how many people can say they went as themselves for Hween. That would have been fucking cool. But it’s too late, as our costumes are done and ready. Fuck, another great idea, literally down the drain.

Now it’s time to put it all together. I discover that the dye we used apparently loosens the elastic in my pants, so we could have a situation here. Aside from my pants potentially falling off, it looks like I dropped a dump in them, they droop so low. I have to bunch them up in the back, and twist them into a ball that T puts a rubber band on. My nice purple pants….

The gloves go on next. They are taped purple with yellow fingers. They actually kinda look Iron Man-ish. The tape is tight, so getting them off and on quickly is not easy. Next, she runs tape around my stomach for the belt. As it turns out, this too, is a bit tight, which is of no help when drinking copious amounts of beer. At least that is my excuse, and I am sticking to it. We get everything all together, and it actually looks pretty damn good. We are confident that our idea is not very mainstream at all, but just on the edge enough that people will go “Shit! That’s a good idea!”. We will be the toast of the party, and win the prize for best costume. And it’s still ghetto enough that’s it’s funny and creative. This is the most confident I have felt wearing purple. And latex gloves.

So we arrive, do a last minute check over everything. I realize I forgot to stuff myself like I said I was going to. D’oh! We walk up and are greeted by the hostess who is dressed up like Slash. Good idea, minimal work, top hat, wig, shades, fake nose piercing, black vest over white shirt and inflatable guitar. I take the cooler around back to where some people are. OK, this is it, this is where we see if this is a hit or a miss. We made a critical error here. T always wants our costumes to ‘go together’, and we separated upon arrival. So me, just by myself might have lessened the impact. T gets the same reaction inside. Finally some people start to get it. But it’s not the hit I thought it was going to be.

As more people arrive, they come up to us and say Power Ranger. Uh, no, not close. The younger kids have no clue who we are. This is another factor I didn’t take into account. I was talking to a 26 year old, and he had no clue. Keep in mind, he was dressed as Senor Frog, and I have no fucking clue who the hell that is. But more and more kids of that age have to ask us. The older folks do get it, some get it right away, some work their way to it. No one wants to get stuck in a dud costume, and I don’t feel that way at all about ours. Not quite the homerun I expected, but I think we are clearly near the top for idea and execution. I guess we shoulda known when a Yahoo image search revealed less than 2 pages of out brilliant costume idea that this might be a bit of a stretch.

Just to paint the picture, and also as my yearly service to you, my 4 dear readers, is to tell you all the costumes I saw. So if you still have a party to go to, here are some ideas (good and lame) that I saw. The guy from Verizon (simple, black jacket with Verizon ID, phone, etc) and his fiancĂ©e dressed the same with a hard hat. Some guy came as Jose Cuervo-belt with bottles, sombrero, Mexican shirt. Another came as the guy from Dewar’s. I didn’t know there was a “guy” for Dewar’s, but he had a beret, flowing white shirt, kilt, shoulder strap with shot glasses, and was giving out shots of Dewar’s. OK, that’s points there. (Plus, he’s halfway to dressing up as Jamie from Mythbusters next year with the white shirt and beret. I wanted to go as the MythBusters a few years ago, but T nixed that idea. We would be Adam & Jamie. I wouldn’t even tart her out as Kari. In the outfit from the balloons flying a lawnchair myth. But I would highly suggest her to do so. Yum)

Another guy came dressed as a pirate captain and his wife came as a Coke can-Captain & coke. This couple always comes up with great couple ideas. Now, I’m not one for dressing up as corporate logos (yea, I’m looking at you Geico caveman), but these were good. Pregnancy was a big thing this year, too. A couple came as a soccer ball (the wife) and a player. She had a soccer ball design over her seemingly 11 month pregnant belly, while he has soccer jersey, shorts, shin guards and spikes on. I said she must not be a good goalie, because obviously he scored. OK, that’s an obvious joke, but funny after 8 beers. Another guy came in a big chef hat and an apron that said Bun Maker, while his wife was dressed as the oven.

Another couple came as a priest and nun, which I think is too obvious. Billy Ray Cyrus was there with Miley, even though I thought it would have been funnier if the dude was Miley’s older boyfriend. An Asian couple came as Dora and Diego. As in every election year, there was a McCain and Palin. That’s real simple with the McCain mask and a suit, but who dafuck wants to wear a suit on Hween? It helped that his wife did kinda look like Palin. Another couple came as the skaters from Blades of Glory. They had body suits on that had glitter and stuff on them. They both had wigs on. Never seeing the movie, I didn’t know who they were. The best part was they walked there dressed up in those costumes. A Las Vegas card dealer (complete with tables and cards, and I only lost $300)and waitress. I think that was it for the couple costumes. There were more couples who came in individual costumes; a zombie and a cat. And speaking of the cat, I think it’s time to retire this idea. There is no work to buy cat ears, draw a nose and whiskers on your face and wear all black. I say if you’re gonna do the cat thing, ya better be dressed as a slut.

More individual costumes; the host was dressed as a ghetto Gene Simmons. There was Moses, a drunk pregnant woman, Caesar salad (toga with salad stuff on it, and a headband made of croutons). Some guy with long hair came dressed as a Norwegian death metal fan or something similar. He had black and white make up on, studded wristbands, etc. I thought he was King Diamond. King Diamond would be a rocking costume, but I don’t think any of his 17 American fans were at the party last night. Of course, there’s always the one person who just writes up a sign and slaps it on for their ‘costume’. This year it was a girl who had ‘jeans $30, shoes $70, shirt $40 not having a Halloween costume priceless’ sign. Boorriingggg. And just a bit disrespectful of this great holiday. BTW, I am not paying $70 for shoes.

I was talking to one of the guys in a dark corner. We were both lamenting the lack of sexy costumes this year. “Yea, the sexy is turned way down this year,” he said. I then punched him for not ogling my wife in her costume. So he did. And then I punched him for ogling my wife. Yea, sometimes you just can’t win with me.

Beer pong soon followed. It was sparsely attended due to the cold temps. It didn’t affect me and my pink covered balls of steel. After clinking hands and looking for powers to activate, me and T won 2, then lost. I would later team with Senor Frog, who at this point I was calling Frogger, and we would lose. Dora came to life. After claiming to have never playing Pong, and getting blown out the first game, she kicked ass. Asian Diego was there for window dressing.

All in all, this was good, clean fun. We lost out to best costume to the Blades of Glory couple. Goddamn. I have to give credit where credit is due. These guys have come up with some great ideas over the years. This was the same couple that has come as Ric Flair and Elizabeth, Captain Stubing and Vicki and Ron Burgundy and Veronica Corningstone. Fuck. I guess I see where this competitiveness comes to when it comes to Halloween. I think it’s all the guy’s idea. He always know how to slut out his wife. And I guess for this party, coming dressed as two dudes beats our hero idea. I carried a bucket around and T had a monkey on her back for this?

For me, this party had all the aura of Xmas Eve, New Year ’s Eve, etc. It was annual, a marker, a seasonal rite of passage, a harbinger that Halloween was/is right around the corner. Just looking around at the spiderweb lights hanging from the garage gave off that special edge, I just can’t describe it. I felt Halloween. Like a wave, I saw it coming. Somehow, amongst all the PVC hung ghosts, along with all these adults, costumed. Right along side the keg or the buffet table, it finally got to me. Amidst all these adults with varying degrees of costumes, it reached out to me. Yes, it has to burn and settle in my chest for a week. I only have a week left till I scare kids.

Man, how I relish in Hween, what a celebration of the macabre. As I take Bauer for his walks, I see the decorations creeping up. Gravestones, cotton spiderwebs, skeletons. I walked him past that fucking house one block up that kicks my ass Halloween night. They’re already building shit. They got dummies propped up, a tunnel constructed to lead kids to the backyard. They have such an edge over me. They got money and time to build-build!-all this shit, and the people to work scaring the kids. On the other hand, I don’t have the time or money to invest on upgrading my front lawn o’ scares. It’s been an exercise in self restraint to not buy Hween shit. T is a trooper and when we’re out she will ask me if I want to stop by a Hween shop. I grit my teeth and say no because I know my few scheckels need to go to mortgage, food, water, etc. It sucks, it really does.

From above, where irony would step in. As it turns out, we wouldn’t have even needed the dryer to make up our costumes. Yea, that’s a kick in the nuts, but at the same time, it still got me T dressed up as a sexy cop. Good Lord, she can arrest me any day. GGGRRRRRR

OK, so throughout this post, I have made many allusions to our costume. Rather masterful allusions, in my opinion. Now I want to know if anyone has figured out who we are. Much like Jigsaw, I have laid many clues. So please prove there are more than just me reading these posts, and post your best guess. I am reluctant to post my mug here, for many reasons, but I will post me in my costume. Until then, it’s up to you. Would you like to play a game?

Please be sure to check KevolutionTheory in a few days for bonus material I am far too lazy and drunk to post now. I promise it will be worth your while.

OK, so this was a classic case of starting out strong and just getting to be shit at the end. I mean, look at that ending. How lame. I apologize for putting you through that. Would you be surprised to know I was buzzogging pretty hardcore at the end there. I was torn because I was all full of inspiration and wanted to get this out in a timely manner. I added a new paragraph, added a gratitutious Kari pic. Added a new costume and tightened a few things up.

Deleted Scene
We were stuck as to where to find good purple stuff. T really looked at the pics we were able to find. She made a good discovery; apparently the previous people who thought of this used tights. OK, not exactly tights, but it’s more like ballerina type stuff. Yea, ballerina outfits. I really believe in this idea, so I say, go ahead and order them. We get them, and now I actually have to try this shit on. This is one of those “seemed like a good idea at the time” type of scenarios. T puts hers on and just laughs. I don’t know why, but I’m guessing that she knows I have to try mine on next. I swallow what’s left of my pride these days, and pull this tight purple ballerina top out of the bag. Christ, it even looks like it’s a panty hose package. So I put it on…..

Yea, it’s not a pretty scene. Some huge hairball stuffed into a purple spandex top. So it’s a chick’s top, and the chest comes really low. There is just no way this thing will work. Even T is laughing at me-at me-like a mental patient. I look in the mirror to see my hairy chest more than overflowing the neckline, my man boobs now a stretched shade of fay purple. Now, I have worn many, many questionable outfits over the years (neon, Zubaz, etc) and this just ain’t gonna work. It is enough to make me laugh, but it’s also enough to make us realize this isn’t the way to go. I try to find the sliver lining in this situation of trying on girls’ dance attire, but simply there is none. Just another memory I hope the booze will soon erase.

Scruffless

So I recently did something I haven’t done in years. It’s something I’ve kinda been thinking of toying with. Now that I can’t dye my hair funny colors, I guess that gives me a void in the “I feel like doing something different” department. It’s something I’m not particularly comfortable with, but once you start you can’t go back, so you have to fully commit. All I needed was the right occasion. And it finally presented it self. After doing a phone interview, I scored a second interview. Since it’s been a while since I’ve been this high on the horse, I thought now was the time to do it. Now was the time to change my appearance, and see if I got anywhere.

Yes, friends, I shaved.

I can’t tell you the last time I did it. I don’t shave for functions, funerals or weddings. Hell, I didn’t even shave for my wedding. Those of you lucky souls who know me, know my look. The “scruff” has always been a part of that. To properly set this dramatic development, some explanation is in order. At the very core, it’s this. I am ugly. Not fugly, mind you, just ugly. I am the kind of ugly that after you’ve had a few beers, I might, might, appear reasonably semi non-heinous. I figured out early on, I needed to hide my face. So, boom, long hair. But that only worked so much. So I decided to grow some scruff. More than a 5 o’clock shadow, not committing to the nerdliness of a full beard, somewhere in between. I did it for looks as well as convenience. I mean, what guy actually wants to shave every day? No one I know. Plus, I’m a bleeder. I seriously bleed just about every day on the “job”. But the thought of having a razor sharp blade that close to my neck and face early in the morning can lead to no good. So I opted to not even deal with it. Scruff was my way of hiding my ugly, another layer to hide behind.

In some circles, I am sure it tagged me as an 80’s holdover. Like I have all the Miami Vice episodes on tape. (Which I don’t by the way.) But it’s my look; I like it. I haven’t done any of this stuff to stand out or draw attention. I did it to hide more. Sometimes, I don’t like looking this way, but I am comfortable with it. So it’s everyone else’s problem to live with it.

Over the years, I added touches, like dying my hair, and experimenting with goatees, and longer chin scruff. A few years back, in addition to the scruff, I grew a soulpatch. The wife seemed to like it, and it’s pretty low-maintenance, so that has stuck, too.

Nature has gotten her revenge with my formally long and curly locks. All the dying and Stif Stuffing has taken its toll. Plus I tie it back now just about every day, which just yanks more and more of it out. I really think it’s something with bald men growing massive goatees. I guess it’s the thing to do. But check it out next time you see a bald guy; I bet he has a rockin’ goatee.

Anyway, when I got word about this interview, I toyed with the idea of shaving. I certainly wouldn’t take the soulpatch off, it takes to long to grow back. Plus, I’m like Homer Simpson when he shaves; the muzzle just grows right back in an hour. So I saw all of this as a sign that now was the time to experiment. Well, all of this, plus my trimmer shit the bed, so I was kinda screwed. No problem, I can man up. The fateful morning came. I looked in the mirror, at all my scruff, with no idea what cruel, cruel fate lays ahead for them. Filled the sink with warm water, got a new razor and lathered up. No going back, I can do this. One last inhale, then take the blade from the jaw upward.

Two things immediately struck me. One, how loud this is. It was really like taking a credit card over the scruff. I can’t describe the sound in any other way. I didn’t remember shaving being so loud. And the second thing that hit me was

YYYEEOOOOWWWWWW! Holy fuck, this fucking hurts! The air rushing to my previously covered flesh stung and hurt like a …a…big…stingy hurty thing. What the fuck? I immediately saw bare flesh where I literally never saw any. I was a bit worried as I had been working in the sun that week, that this would just add to any raccoon eyes effect, but gladly my pale skin held no such surprises. OK, first swipe is good. No river of blood. No scarring. Breath in and out, let’s do it again. (Insert credit card sound here) YYEEOOOWWWCCHHH. Imagine an R2-D2 scream here. What the fuck? Why does this shit hurt so much? How can guys do this every day? How come not every dude looks like ZZ Top? This sucks. The rush of air stings newly shoven (and, yes, BTW, I think I just invented that word ‘shoven’, past tense of shave) skin. OK, this is not fun.

The process repeats itself. The water in the sink continually grows bloodier and hairer. It takes some finagling, but I preserve the soulpatch. Fuck, yea, still rock n roll. After a shower, my face is still a tingle, and not in a good way. Luckily, there is no massive bleeding to content with, so that’s dodging a bullet. But my face still feels weird. Maybe there is some sort of chemical reaction to my skin and natural light. It’s not very distracting, but it is a bit odd feeling. It’s like I’m a Mexican wrestler, and I have just lost my mask. There is one less layer between me and the world.

It feels odd, like I am a bit naked. I check, and no, thankfully, I am not naked, so it’s just the shaving thing. The best way I can describe it is it stings. Constantly. I guess there is some sort of chemical reaction with the sun. I miss the whiskers. I miss the sensation of having stubble over my lips. I discover my tongue has a weird habit of ranging my upper lip, searching for leftover food. Yea, I know that’s totally disgusting, but I said it. I miss that occasional tongue swipe and getting an extra bit of lunch a few hours after the fact. OK, I’ll stop.

I don’t really resent it. I feel it’s more like a ‘doing something different’ thing. Yes, I do feel a bit uncomfortable, a bit odd. But it’s not like I am constantly running my hands up and down my jaw going “wow”. I know this will all grow back in a day.

Interview comes and goes. It’s not the point of this post, and as you can figure, I didn’t get the job. So it left me with a naked face. My next worry was what my friends would say. I am probably more “image” than anyone I know. People just attribute certain things with me being me. I really don’t think I could suddenly shave my head, and not catch a ration of shit from my friends. I would expect that, and they would be right in doing so. I don’t know of anyone in my circle of friends that if they suddenly changed their look would catch as much heat as me. And that’s not a knock, I think it’s because just about everyone else I know is firmly entrenched in their life’s path. Me, well I guess I am more shallow than that. Again, it’s just my perception. So I worry a bit as I face them (no pun intended) for the weekend.

2 things happen that surprise me. 1) my scruff doesn’t quite have the Homer Simpson-like resiliency I thought it would. I really thought the next day my 5 o’clock shadow would be well past 11:30. I thought it would grow back so fast I could hear it. But it didn’t/doesn’t. (OK, I don’t know what the proper tense would be. Fuck off.) This lack of development is a bit of a bummer. Now that leaves me to face my friends.

Supportive as they are, they say…nothing. Which I guess is the best thing they could say. It means one of two things. 1) They never even noticed. Or 2) They don’t really care. OK, maybe a sub point of 1 is they didn’t wanna say anything. Whatev, I am fine with it. In the end, it takes a few days to get my scruff up to snuff. The whole experience didn’t really bother me and wasn’t as traumatic as expected. It was a bit more painful that I expected, though. I wouldn’t be totally averse to doing it again in the future. The scruff does make me feel a lot more comfortable though. Like Popeye says, “I yam who I yam.”

This was written in 2 pieces. The actual interview happened about 6-7 weeks ago. I wrote about half of it, then went through the whole Vacation Post stuff, so this took a backseat for a while. I am not a big fan of basically writing 1 thing in 2 pieces so far apart. I won’t tell you where the first part ended, hopefully you can’t figure it out. I haven’t de-scruffed myself since then.

Clothes Shopping

Awright, guys, raise your hands if you hate going clothes shopping. (Trust me here, girlies, all the dudes are raising their hands, which is better than what they usually do with their hands in front of the computer) I will speak for the penised population and say we hate clothes shopping for ourselves. And here’s a newsflash, we generally hate clothes shopping for you girls, too. “No your ass doesn’t look big”, “yes that dress is fine on you”, “no, those pants don’t look any different from the other 30 pair of ‘taupe’ color pants you have”. We hate clothes shopping for ourselves. It has to have something to do with our male genes. Maybe because every time we shop, all of a sudden we see the 5 year old version of ourselves trying on all the horribly tacky clothes that our mom lovingly picked out for us. God, the pants she stuck me in when I was a kid.

I have very little fashion sense, especially when it comes to “dress up”. You know occasions that require my shirt to have buttons, my pants to be ironed, non sneaker like attire to be on my size 12s. Egad, do I have to wear a tie? I can count my suit jackets on one hand. I own 3; 2 black, and one..well…fuck, I totally forget, even though I just bought it a few months ago. I know 2 are black; they’re all purpose. Weddings, funerals, Xmas parties, business dinners, etc. Back when I was working, there was one dude who we always busted on because he always wore a black suitcoat at national meetings. All along, I was hoping my hip crowd would never notice I was doing the exact damn thing. I am sure they did, but at least never had the decency to call me on it to my face.

I don’t like getting dressed up. I hate it. I see nothing wrong with wearing a ratty old band t-shirt, cargo/board shorts and flips. OK, in the winter, shirt jeans (black, of course) and high top sneakers (because they make my size 12s look a mere size 11 ½). Anything out of that, and I feel severely motarded. I feel uncomfortable in my own skin, and most likely the social situation I find myself in. Or maybe it’s because I sweat like a fucking hog (they sweat, don’t they?) when you wrap me in a long sleeve shirt, tie, jacket, uncomfortable pants and shoes. I feel totally enclosed, like I am some sort of nerd sandwich.

So we’re going to a wedding tomorrow. That’s going to be outside. For those of you that don’t live here, I will tell you it’s been high 80’s low 90’2 for seemingly 2 weeks now. So the prospect of being all suited up for an outdoor wedding and reception is pretty appalling to me right now. Which means, fuck, I gotta go buy some new threads. So off to the fashion haven us poor folks call Kohl’s. I guess I shouldn’t rag on Kohl’s. I think they actually have some pretty cool stuff that you can’t find in any other of a number of retail clothiers. And their prices seem to be more than fair. It’s one of those places that say the regular price is X, but their price is so much cheaper, you would be retarded to not buy it. I am sure it’s an old practice, but not a lot of stores seem to do it anymore. You can’t go to Kohl’s too often, though. It’s a real good place to go, like 3-4 times a year, anything more would be a waste. Plus they apparently have some great sales if you have their card, coupon and correct blood type.

I do what any good husband would do; beg my wife to dress me. I still hold veto power, and it mostly an exercise of me holding up a shirt and pants and continually asking “does this go?” OK, so maybe once I asked if my ass looked fat, I’ll give ya that one. We both agree we aren’t getting too dressed up. I catch a break as this means, no jacket, no tie. Sweet! But I do have to buy a whole new ensemble. T gives me a bit of a head start by picking out the pants. OK, that’s half the battle. The pants are a light beige. In essence, pretty much anything else will match. As I browse, I come across some killer seersucker shirts. I know, I know, seersucker and all, but they were cool, palm tree covered light and airy shirts. Just what I need. I am all over this rack as T returns with her proposed shirt selections.

I flash back to being that 5 year old whose mom is forcing me to wear pretty much the ugliest stuff she can find. I am not some demented Ken doll she can dress up as she wishes. These shirts are ugly and very unKev. I mean those of you who have been lucky to have met me in person know I have a certain “look”. I am tall, over 6 foot. I still have shoulder length long hair, though it seems to be falling out like fetuses from the Spears sisters’ legs (ZING!), and I guess what you could call a rapidly decaying formerly athletic build. Scruff and a soul patch.

She brings me these shirts that look like they were picnic blankets in a previous life. Ugly picnic blankets. I mean, stripes, and designs and multicolored. I mean, I guess it’s great if you are an accountant or office manager or something. But not for a dude vainly holding onto his rock n’ roll past. The best way I can describe it, is like you rip the head of a typical Target model, and replace it with Nickelback dude. And vice versa. OK, that might be a pretty shitty analogy, but it’s the best I can do. She says to basically look for something ‘like this’ and leave for the women’s department.

Maybe I just never noticed before. Maybe all stores aren’t like this. But for this particular Kohl’s the women’s section is easily twice as big as the men’s. Oh vey, this could take a while. I have actually lost T in this store. It doesn’t take me too long to cruise the men’s section, and find a few possible shirt options. And then it’s like I am Michael Waltrip in any race. I just go around and around in circles, not really doing much. It doesn’t take me too much time to entirely cover the men’s and old-men’s-vainly-trying-to-look-young-section. Over and over. Yea, I did scoop up a few things. But really here, my work is done. Now it’s a battle to find T and het the hell outta here.

I find her relatively quickly. And she actually OKs my shirt choices. She’s not as lucky as me, she doesn’t find anything to wear. I mean, really, who the hell gets married and has the reception outside in fucking August? Another ray of luck shines down, as we agree to not buy shoes, we will wear flips. That’s fucking money right there and why I love this girl so damn much. That’s right, I am going to a wedding wearing flips; even with my disgusting toenail that has been filled with old blood since it got smacked in hockey. I will look ‘right’, I will not look/feel out of place. It could always be worse, I could be that schmuck wearing that tux in 90 degree heat. Actually, the groom is way cool, and a fellow Avalanche fan, so I will try to limit my bitching. I know there will be other stiffs there who felt like they had to wear the whole suit get up. Maybe, their girl made them do it. Either way, I will be mocking them.

I believe my stuff I won’t even have to iron. I fucking hate ironing; I try and try, but am just no good at it. T usually has to swoop in like SuperGirl and save the day. I’ve asked her repeatedly to dress up like SuperGirl, but that is a post for another day. She ended up getting a sundress, so we are all good to go. And maybe, just maybe, I will shave my toe knuckle hair. After all, he is an Avalanche fan…..

Vacation Post: Wrap Up

(Originally written 7/22/8)

Aw right, I’ve had parts of Vacation posts rattling about in my head for weeks now. I’ve tried to work them out where they can be good, funny posts. But alas, after weeks of half baked ideas, they have just turned out to be just that; half assed. I have just run out of steam. And I know the Vacation posts have been long (fucking 10 pages about vacationing with kids!?) and maybe not as funny as you and me would like. I guess they were more just to write to convey about what I was seeing and feeling. So if they were too self indulgent or not funny or a waste of your time, I do apologize. I know we’re all here just to laugh.

Instead of trying to belabor these Vacation posts, I’ve decided just to blow them out as it were. They’re not good enough for an entire post, but maybe good enough just to toss in. Plus it wraps these posts up, and allows me to get onto to other (hopefully funnier) posts. So here we go, in random variety order…

Why do kids love to dig at the beach? It’s like they become solely focused on just digging as much as they can. I doubt these kids just shovel up the lawn for shits and giggles at home, so why does it become an obsession at the shore? As I walked and ran on the beach, I saw dozens of little rugrats digging like their life depended on it. And the parents are getting into it as well. I saw many real shovels as well. Yea, like the kind you can buy at Home Depot. Shit, these parents come prepared these days. Not only do you have to throw everything in the car, now you have to bring your own landscaping tools.

There’s a new beach game I saw sprout up this year. There are what look like 2 drying racks. And you have 2 balls tied together. The rack has 3 rungs, and I guess you score more depending where the balls land. To me, it looked like you were throwing testicles. I saw a lotta people doing that. But I would have a hard time throwing what look like bull testicles at the beach.

4th of July on the beach was way cool. We decided to stay at the house and watch from there. Apparently, police were handing out flyers saying anyone caught setting off fireworks on the beach would be fined like $1000. So you just knew, as the real fireworks started going off, so did the “illegal” ones on the beach. Up north, fireworks would go off, and you see 2 cops on ATVs race up the beach. As soon as they got up there, “illegal” fireworks went off further down south. Sure enough, there’s the 2 lights now racing down the beach. This just went on and on, and for some reason just cracked me up. Hell, if I was the beach cops, I wouldn’t be busting my ass to catch these firework crooks. Regardless, it was cool to see fireworks lighting up the ocean. Remember how I was busting on the papa-razzi at the amusement park? You should see me totally tooling out and trying to take pictures of fireworks. I think I ended up taking like 30, 25 of which were pretty much shit. I blame the beer.

While walking by myself on the beach, I had an odd experience. There I was, immersed in my SummerSongs and everything that is the beach, staring out at the ocean and the seeming edge of the world. I found myself just really inspired to write. Maybe about what I was seeing, what I was doing, but I wasn’t just mindlessly “being” at the beach; I found myself really wanting to do something else. I noted it as some kind of sign, something that I should actively pursue. You can see I got a ton of stuff from the vacation to write about (and OK, not all of it was great or funny), and maybe I should be a bit more passionate about it. I have been low on passion for months now.

I guess you can kinda add this to the Vacationing With Kids post. So kinda add this to that, yo. They were checking beach tags on the beach (duh) and all ours were already at the beach. So it was pretty much me, my mother in law and my brother in law. My BIL was in and out, so at the time it was pretty much just me on the main floor with the main TV. The main TV that has On Demand. Newsflash; I am poor and don’t have this service at mi casa. So it took me a while to figger out. I got to the free movies section. Seeing as how all was calm, I went to the horror section. I quickly came across Hostel. I heard good things about this flick, and it’s supposed to be gritty and gory. Again, seeing as how all the kids were gone, and it was a few straggler adults, I felt empowered. It was the most violent, adult thing I could find. So I put the SOB on. I looked to the deck to see my mother in law firmly immersed in…well, whatever the fuck. The point is that she was immersed, and the coast was clear.

Fuck the luck. I get about 10 minutes in. The movie is not gory yet at all. However, we are at a point where the one guy (which is what you always call the secondary male character at this point in most movies) is going through his camera phone showing all kinds of naked chicks. My Buffalo BIL is in silent agreement on the back about how much this movie rocks. Then, much like one of the 4 young girls, I hear the deck door slide open. Shit, my mother in law is coming in. Goddamn it. You have got to be kidding me. I am toast. Even pig headed as I am, I know there is no point to continue. In the vain hope that the possibility might still exist at some point in the fading 12 more hours, I manage to save the movie.

OK, so she’s mulling about, so I scroll through the movies again. I find the directors cut of the original Robocop. Great summertime, popcorn movie. I feel this is a decided compromise, so I put it on. Sure, for it’s time it was a bit gory, but it can’t hold up to current times, can it? My MIL sits in the easy chair next to my loafing ass in the couch. So the movie goes on for a bit, and I can see it will start to get violent soon. Red from That 70’s Show is looking to kill poor future Robocop guy. I recall from that time, that this scene is kinda violent. I ask my MIL “I think it’s gonna kinda get violent here. Is there something else you would like to watch? Perhaps some sort of judge show? They seem to be all the rage this point of the day.” She says no. Again, I feel the need to tell here that it will get bloody. “No, seriously, I think it’s gonna get ugly here. I don’t need to watch this. Is there something you would like to watch?”

“No,” she answers, “it won’t bother me. I will just close my eyes.” Fuck, if I had a nickel for every time her daughter told me that. OK, game on. No kids in sight, and I have basically pleaded with her not to watch. If she wants to, she better close here eyes for this next part. I can’t even look at her. It’s such a release to watch something that isn’t a ‘Wiggle’ or a ‘Jonas’ on the screen, I am enthralled. She seems not to be disturbed, so we keep going with the movie.

We get to the part where there are 2 hooligans (who kind of look like yours truly) and they get a hold of a girl. Robo gets on the scene. He wants to shoot, but hooligan #1 puts the damsel in distress right in front of him. Robocop scans the scene and sees a weakness. The girl has her skirted legs open, so he shoots through her legs. Right into the guys nuts. At this point, my MIL lets out a heretofore unheard of evil laugh.

It was so out of character. The whole time I was worried about offending her. And here we come to a scene where a guy gets shot in the nads, and she’s fucking laughing. It didn’t take me too much longer to shut the movie off. But not before saving it. So I still wonder if the next people who rent the house see the saved movies and think we were a bunch of sick fucks. Actually that would be kind of cool. I should have thought it out more, and saved the most sick movies I could find.

(Mood change) I still felt a bit shallow staying there. Here I am, at the place I love the most, and felt like it was a tease. Goddamn, one day, I would love for us to retire at the beach. Get a house that can see the sunrise or sunset. Hear the ocean. The dichotomy (there’s that word again) was I was at a place that one day I yearn to live, but for the last year have made very little moves to make that a reality. It’s like tasting the best rum ever, but just one sip, and who dafuck knows when you will ever get that chance again. It was such a tease. It was great to live that life for a week, but still a bit defeating.

(All right, I am going to wrap this shit up. BTW, I have been buzzogging the last half of this post.)

Irony again shines down upon me in the middle of the night. I need to dig up the Vacation 2007 posts to properly put this in perspective. So there I was. The 4th of July gave way to the 5th. It was raining pretty heavily on the beach. I guess it was 1 or 2 AM. Everyone else went to bed. There I was, last man standing on the last night I might ever be in Ocean City, NJ. A storm crashing all around me. Ironic because this is pretty much how I ended my last real vacation in OCMD.

In 2007 circumstances dictated we leave a day early, and it just crushed us. What I vividly recall from that Last Night on Earth was everyone went to bed. It was just me on the pier jutting into the bay. There was a storm rolling in from the north. It wasn’t raining. But I clearly recall seeing orange thunder rolling in against a dark blue sky. I remember the local a few houses up watching it roll in, too. Eventually, he went in-hell, he sees this shit all the time. But I stared, mesmerized. How so ironic, at a bonus week right on the beach, it’s just me. The beach, the rain. I am sure there is some sort of major message there, but fuck if I can figure it out. Maybe you can tell me.

(Sappy ending, then I can go to bed) All in all it was a good week. I learned some stuff about me; parts I knew, parts I didn’t. I learned that no matter how much chaos is awaiting me, the beach and ocean can always calm me down and fix me and make me better. I saw that it took 4 little girls to get me to the beach, and that’s the most time I’ve spent on the beach in years. I learned there is NOTHING BETTER FOR ME than time at the beach/bay. I learned T is just a big kid, too. I learned Mario & Liugi will always be special friends of mine. I learned I need to grow the fuck up in some areas. I got some truly killer pictures (which you can see as well). I felt that writing is probably something I should pursue a bit more. This trip reinforced how much I miss adult vacations with A&J and how much I miss them in general. I learned how fucking out of shape I am to run on the beach, but I can still drink like a fish. Music can also be so key and powerful; it really can be your own soundtrack to life. I missed Bauer more than I should. I know I wouldn’t trade those times with T on the beach for anything-they are my most cherished and vividly clear memories I have. I can see us flinging the lacrosse ball in the surf. I can see us kicking the ball and me silently hoping to not pull a Charlie Brown. I can see the sun in the sky. I can see us chasing the ball like a bunch of motards.

Awright, this wraps it up. Thank you so much for reading all this. And yes, I heave learned my lesson. You and I want to see more funny shit here. I agree. I think this gets all the sappiness out of me. I mean, let’s face it, who wants to see a happy Kevolution Theory? Happiness is boring. Bitterness is funny. So please come back soon to see all the vile. Peace out, mother fuckers.

Vacation Post:Chasing the Sun

(originally written 7/8/8)

I went down to OC, NJ with very few goals. After all, what is the point of setting goals on vacation if you can’t achieve them? My goals were few yet achievable. In no particular order; see and commit the sunrise to digital, call 2 key old friends still making a living out of the physical music biz, go under the Atlantic Ocean and meet up with my old friend, hero and inspiration George Stone. This post is all about me and the sun. You know, that big red/orange planet in the sky? Fuck this shit, I am half in the bag, buzzogging my literal guts out..

I checked before we went don, and sunrise was generally 5:20 AM or so. So if you think sunrise actually happens at 5:20 or so, you would be wrong. Please let my experience guide you so as to not make any future mistake. Because sunrise over the Atlantic is truly a thing of beauty.

I can tell you of my only real sunrise witnessed. I am pretty sure it is in May of 05. I was in Long Beach Island. I somehow managed to get up early and go down to the beach. I was totally unprepared. So there I am, all dressed in black, with no chair. It totally looked like I slept there. Black hat, black sweatshirt, black jeans-I was only missing the requisite bottle of Thunderbird.

Here’s a tip for those of you who want to witness a true sunrise. Look at the time of the sun rise, and add a half hour. And by add a half hour, I mean tack on an additional half hour to your trip to the beach to watch the sunrise. For argument’s sake, let’s say the sun is scheduled to rise at 5:23 AM. It’s not like at 5:22 its total darkness. Come 5:23 the show begins. Absolutely not.

Newsflash; the sun’s rays break the horizon well before the actual sunrise. This is from dumb experience. I somehow managed to get up early enough while the Long Beach Island (LBI) beach was bathed in relative darkness. Again, motard that I am, I was totally unprepared. No camera, no chair, no looking like I actually had a place to stay. I remember walking onto that beach. There were fisherman already casting their bait out to the waves. I really don’t think there were 5 humans on the beach that I could see.

I sat, my ass on a towel on the cold beach. Just waiting. It was relatively dark. As the minutes crept on, I saw a vivid orange crack the horizon. The sun was not up yet, but the rays were breaching the horizon. It was a slow motion movie right ahead of me. Slowly, I saw more orange over the horizon. Not a full sun yet, it probably wasn’t close to sunrise yet, but the show was on.

The top of a circle became apparent over the horizon. It didn’t make a difference to the waves crashing, the birds flying, the fishermen fishing. I guess this was a regular drill (Duh). Doesn’t matter to me, this is frigging awesome. The sky grows brighter. I can see more of the beach. The sun is halfway over the horizon. I have never seen a more orange sky. It feels so personal. Like the sun is rising for only me.

The beach is almost now totally lit. The sun just needs the bottom part to crest the horizon, and I guess the sunrise is complete. Eventually, it happens. It looks like the sun has emerged from the ocean. The fishermen could care less; I guess they are locals and are somehow used to this scene. Me, I can’t get enough. There are few clouds over the horizon, but the sunrise comes through unobscured.

I sit in my hobo like state, thinking this shit is awesome. It is. It’s the first true sunrise I have seen in my life, and it is easily worth all the hassle. A few years back, at a beach house we lucked into for Memorial Day weekend, we got close. We partied the first night we got there. A few brave souls were up at sunrise, so we decided to go down to the beach. At this point, some of us were up past 24 hours. We got to the beach well after the sun was up. As I type this, the disposable camera we took to document this week sits under a cover of dust to my left. I would hope there are some killer pictures in there from 6 years ago.

Flash to present day. I know how the drill goes. I need at least a half hour before sun rise. My wife T is surprisingly cool for the concept of catching a sunrise. We skip the first morning, and if you read the Vacationing w/ Kids post, you know how that turned out. The second morning, we caught a bit of a break, as this was the morning the father of the 4 girls was sleeping in the living room right outside our room. We had made a deal to wake each other up at 4:30; him so he could leave, us so we could see the sunrise.

A quick look outside revealed a strong ribbon of clouds right at the horizon. Fuck this shit I thought, we have all week to get up at 4-fucking-30-Am to catch a sunrise. My ass is going back to bed. The second attempt reveals the same damn result; clear skies every where except the damn horizon. I make the call to go the fuck back to bed. Still plenty of time. But I am getting tired of getting up every morning at 4:30 and walking out the deck to make a call. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I would love to catch a sunrise. But it looks like the sun rises a bit to the north, and the clouds obscure it.

Weather comes into play, and I take Wednesday off for the better Thursday. At this point, I am beat to shit, so I give up the ghost. I don’t get to see that Atlantic Ocean sunrise. My mother in law swears she was up and caught the sunrise, so we shall see. And you would think my battle against the sun ends here. I am not typing this much to tell you that. So we go on.

I don’t tan well. This is a lesson I learn in my current j*b. My face has had sunburn. And let’s face it, I can’t afford to get any more ugly to be with my hottie wife. I really do have a redneck at this point. A real deal, farmer, NASCAR redneck. I try to fight it. Use sunscreen on my face and neck, and reapply. Yea, cough, pussy. I am just preventing the eventual onset of ‘more ugly’. Really, at times I worry about what I am exposed to, and what I am breathing in. No point in getting the beach house if I can’t enjoy it.

When I get to the beach, I make the decision to go for it all. I go shirtless. Now, please don’t feign to be impressed. This is not a Chippendale’s dancer going topless, this is a 210 pound blob going without a shirt. But I figure I have arrived at the point to do so. I am married, so she is stuck with me and fuck everyone else. I bravely expose my torso flesh to the ravages of the sun.

Not that I am looking for product placement, but we use Coppertone the whole week and get no real burns. So if anyone who reads this awesome blog that happens to work for Coppertone, and wants to reward me for praising their fine product, please get in touch with me. My ample belly flesh doesn’t burn. I don’t get burned on my shoulders, and I don’t get the dreaded raccoon eyes. We use the 50 lotion on our faces, and the 30 sprays everywhere else. Happily, planes don’t crash from the sun reflecting off my pasty Irish flesh. I can go into the ocean. I can stay on the beach. I can go to the boards, and even my toes don’t get burned. Ah, yes, it looks like I will escape with no real skin damage.

Enter Friday’ the last morning we will be there. It’s cloudy and overcast. We’re leaving tomorrow, and what the fuck. My wife and I slap 15 on our faces, and head down the beach to get those abandoned pier shots I want. Except, on the way down, the sun comes out. Big time. Sure, I have a cap & shades on. Surely, no damaging rays can get through. T wears a jacket with a hood, and on the way back up, she puts it up. She looks like a movie star trying to avoid attention. Not only is she beautiful (Hi, honey, thanks for reading! Love ya! Extra exclamation points!!!) but she is smart. Go figure, on the last real morning we are there, I get fucking sunburned. Right on my already redneck.

I mean to the point there is a dull pain when I put the seatbelt on. Goddamn it, I was almost outta here with no real damage. Ugh, I might as well shave a 3 in my head.

In the end, it’s a minor price to pay (for now). Just one rash of sunburn on my shoulders will hopefully lead to no permanent damage. Sucks that I didn’t catch a sunrise. I wholeheartedly endorse Coppertone. Except it takes a bit to wash off. After a few applications, it is almost like a snake peeling off your skin in the shower. It’s not quite as cool as peeling off Elmer’s Glue off your fingers in 5th grade art class. Think more along the lines of a snake shedding its skin.

Awright kids, it’s 2:25 in the morning, and I am out of rum. Peace out, yo, & I hope you enjoyed this post.

Summer's Here

(Originally written 5/26/8)

It’s not a surprise. I’ve seen it coming for weeks now. I can’t describe it (so geez, Kevolution Theory, let’s just try to write a blog about it. Sounds like fun, dipshit.) I’ve seen it, but have been too busy to write to point it out. So what better time than now? Now being 12:11 AM on Memorial Day Monday. The fuel of coconut rum is now in danger of running dry. So that means I will surely catch a ration of shit. Last time I did this was Friday night, where I Klogged my guts out for you’s, silent, fucking unappreciative readers. 2 posts (just re-edited the last one and put it up, really believing it was as funny as it could be.) There have been signs. And now I choose to point them out, as long as the rum lasts. BTW, I am misspelling like a motherfucker, so y’all better appreciate this shit and Kudo me out the ass.

The first time I can really recall seeing signs that summer was on its way was in the bucket with Scotty. When we were up that high, the sunshine and clear blue skies just had ‘the look’. It was it the way the sun reflected off of..well anything. The glare, the reflection, the sky, the breeze, it just had that teasing quality of ’yea, KT, it’s me summer, and I am coming.’ I am sure Scotty didn’t see it. I am sure he didn’t feel it. It was almost just a personal sign to Kevin Almighty. “Get ready to break out the board shorts and buy new flip flops. I am just a few weeks away, and I just might be able to heal you.” And this is not to say the subsequent sunburn and peeling of flesh was not a de facto sign. (I don’t know why I italicized ‘de facto’ other than I’ve almost only seen it that way.)

Since then, I’ve created my own signs. Take for instance, the breaking out of the grill. O, it’s been a sweet few weeks. It first started with one of my best friends in this world, we’ll call him Flyin’, since that is in fact what I call him. He came over to watch a Wings game on line (which they lost, motherfuckers). It was a beautiful day and the Mrs. was off doing…something. When inviting him over, I said let’s barbecue. I take my grill seriously. It’s almost an inherent gift. I don’t read no books or study or whatnot. It’s an intrinsic gift that I just know when the meat in question is done. Burgers, chicken, pork, buffalo, shrimp, crab, etc. Me and fire get along well. In fact, if I had to say I had a personal logo, it would be blue flames. But that is a topic for another post.

As such, I feel an inherent competition amongst my fellow loser neighbors. I want to be the first. So Flyin’ did me a great favor by coming over. He gave me an excuse to fire up the old grill first. There’s a guy right next to use that is probably similar in age (but looks far older). He’s a griller, too. His grill will drift right into our kitchen window. Man, that pisses me off. I smell it and feel like I lost this imaginary battle. So to be the first free and clear to burn dead animal on the grill is a huge stroke to the ego. I was a proud papa to take the cover off the grill, shake the winter months off, and fire that motherfucker up. No one else within the vicinity of my yard did so yet, so score points for me. Me and Flyin’ ate the sweetest chicken and burgers in the ‘hood that day. The rest of the grills sat in quiet jealousy. Not even Lou, the guy right behind us, christened his grill yet. This is the same Lou that you hear dumping the weekend worth’s of empties in the recycle can every Sunday night. Point and match me.

I’ve been wearing shorts more and more. And by shorts, I mean the 2-3 pair that I didn’t put in the crawlspace last fall. Yes, all the boardshorts are still safe in storage bins in the crawlspace. A few weeks ago, I made it official by dragging out the hammock. That is, until I realized I somehow lost an all important S-hook. So the hammock looked like a deflated balloon. Defeated, hanging by one S-hooked metal chain; the other end limply on the ground. My, my, my, so sad, and such a tease. I took days for me to get the Mrs. to run to Lowe’s and get another Goddamn S-hook that can hold my fat ass in hammocked-bliss.

The days have been getting longer. The glorious sun hangs longer in the evening sky. Bauer looks at us like, “yo, seriously, let’s get the hell out there. I have new yards to piss and poop on.” When I take him out by myself, I wear the iPod, looking to create new spring/summer memories for the songs being played. Speaking of which, I will tell you I have not rearranged the order of my SummerSongs mix since I was in OCMD last year. Sure, I’ve added a bunch of songs (including a bunch of Southern Culture on the Skids surf instrumentals. Do yourself a favor, and check out this band, as I added almost every single song from their last 8 CDs today.) but have not changed the order since the last time I was walking/running in OCMD. Call me superstitious or nostalgic.

I feel it in me. The last few weeks, I have been hawking out ocean/boardwalk cams online, just to try to feel like I’m there. I have found a few favorites. And as a service to you, dear reader, I am ready to reveal some of the best places to go on the web to feel a bit closer to Mother Ocean. We’ll start in Wrightsville. This camera was way better a few years ago. It was off line for a long time, but I kept track of it, off of my WEA PC to here. They have change the camera angle, almost daily now. Not as good or as clear as it was. A slight bonus is that they loop ocean sound effects, so it does make you feel a little bit more like you are there. Worth the browser pointing, so visit:
http://www.wrightsville.com/bchcam.htm

Longtime readers know I have spent some time in OCMD, so here are a few good cameras that I’ve been viewing. First one if from the Kite Loft. I’ve run/walked by this cam many times. It almost hurts to watch, because I can visualize everything around it. It’s a painful tease. Every time I went by it, I made sure to look up; in the vain hope that someone else was watching me. That they were jealous that I was that close to the beach. Or they wanted to run like they had a stick up their ass. Either way. Not a live cam feed, but every 5 seconds, and worth it. See what I’m talking about at:
http://www.kiteloft.com/beach_webcam.asp

Let’s stay in OC. This is a great cam. Not live, but updates quite frequently. And there’s a great shortcut, too. There’s a dropdown menu in the center that says ‘view more cams’ and allows you to view multiple cams. Again, I have personally been through many of these locations, and they are almost all great views. Sucks that they are not streaming. I look at many of these cams and get insanely jealous that I am not there. Insanely jealous.
http://www.ococean.com/webcam.html

Good God, I miss this so much right now, it’s almost causing me pain. OK, maybe it’s that or the orange creamsicles, coconut rum & cokes and now just Captain Morgan and Coke Zeros. Seriously, kids, I am growing depressed, which might beget brilliant writing or melancholy writing. Either way I soldier on. You guys even care?

This used to be another good picture cam. Alas, it was the victim of a fire, and at least they let you know, and show you a picture of the cam getting ready to be swallowed by flame. If/when it gets back on line, it’s worth a look. See this one at:
http://www.oceancitycam.com/

This is a wicked cool camera. It’s pretty much live. Not only can you pick a few predetermined points, you can also control the cam and zero in and out. Its reliability is questionable, but well worth it when it’s on (Hey, just like me!) Prob the best streaming cam on the OCMD boardwalk I have stumbled across so far. Check it out at:
http://www.ocmdhotels.com/oceancityinletcam/

Just don’t bitch at me when it doesn’t work. (It doesn’t appear to be working now at 1:50 at night. Or maybe it’s just really, really dark. Whatever. Hey, who’s drinking my Captain & Coke Zero? It can’t be me. Shit, I’m toast tomorrow.)

So let’s go a bit further south. I fully plan a long, melancholy, painful post about me and Virginia Beach. Here I go, setting myself up to write another post, so please hold me to it. I expect some of my MySpace friends to encourage me. Look for that post in about 2 weeks when we would usually be down there. Until then, feel free to view these cameras, and imagine a drunken K Theory stumbling by.

We’ll start here. The Raven is a place we’ve walked past dozens of times over the years. Along with a bunch of friends last year, I finally ate there. And some of us got sick. Not me and my iron stomach mind you, but a few more of the weaker bitched about some shit like “undercooked meat” or some such pansy shit. So that was the first and last time I ever darkened that doorway. (Would I love to in 2 weeks? FUCK YEAH! But again, that a different story for another hopefully upcoming post.) This site is cool because they’ve upgraded it to 4 views around the restaurant. I particularly enjoy the street view. Many times I’ve passed there, and waved to the camera. Again, I was hoping there was some other loser jealous fuck watching the camera and hoping to be me. And if you want to see where I sat my lone time in there, check out the bar cam. We were slightly over and under to the bottom right. You’ll have to imagine the puke later in the hotel. Regardless, still a good cam that updates every second.

Let’s bring it up a bit back north, to the lovely Wildwoods, NJ. Now, excuse Grandpa Theory, as I lean back in my rocking chair on the porch. Now back when I was a kid, it was just “Wildwood”, with minor emphasis placed on Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood. In fact, back then, it was called “Childwood”, in reference to all the partying kids that lived and pissed in the streets there every summer. There was something that was called “the block that rocks” which was highlighted by a club called the Playpen (if I recall correctly, I never had the pleasure to go.) Wildwood was the place that high school and college kids went and made drunken asses of themselves. Boy, am I jealous. Without getting too deep, Wildwood was my first real, adolescent experience to the shore.

Just to be that close, to sniff the action, to pick up on the clues of all that I saw happening hooked me. My sisters had a place down there for a few years. It was literally a converted garage, the driveway ran right up to the steps. It was 5 rooms: kitchen, bathroom (with only a shower stall with a mirror complete with a 1940’s pinup model painted on), living room, and 2 bedrooms. And that’s not counting the ‘screened in porch’. The living room was carpeted in Astroturf. No AC, black and white TV. Yea, it sounds like a dump, and it probably was, but I swear to you, I had life changing events there. Shit that molded my mind to where it is today. I could go on…..

But let’s just stick to a cool webcam I found that appears to be offline right now. There were 2 cams here that pretty much updated every second. Boardwalk view and I believe Ferris Wheel. I haven’t been back to Wildwood since the fall of ’98. I miss it desperately. Feel my pain at:

Here’s some other cool cams that I drop into when I need those Calgon moments to take me away. A streaming one from Hawaii complete with music:
http://www.honolulu.gov/multimed/waikiki.asp
This is a good streaming one from Santa Monica. Wish I could say more, but as I type it’s dark as shit. Since I saved it, I am sure it must be spectacular in the day. Prove me wrong at:

There’s 2 streaming cams here that are generally pretty good. Surf cams from Florida.

Last, I will leave you with a great search site for various beach cams. I am getting too tired to explain much more, so have your lazy ass check it out yourself. Me goings to bed.

Yours sincerely,Mr. Edwin George

So let’s analyze this windfall. First, let’s look at the heading. I don’t think I’ve ever been addressed as ‘beloved’ in any email, so right there, that rings of charm and honesty. It’s nice to see that this Mr. George fella has assumed that all is well with me and the fam. My, how gregarious of the old chap. And it’s nice to see he prepares me for the inevitable surprise contained in his email. Hmm, should I be concerned that he doesn’t capitalize his first proper ‘I’? Nah, surely that is a mistake in his busy life of alerting strangers of their dumb good luck. Let’s read on. Good ol’ Edwin sure likes to use big words. Hell. Some of them are like 8-9 letters long! Surely, this email must be of utmost importance. I shall endeavor to read on. Shit, this guy should have a MySpace page that barely no one reads.

Hmm, he has again failed to capitalize a proper ‘I’. OK, I’ll let that slide, and surely cast no doubt on the validity of this email. Hmm, I guess ‘beforei’ is some sort of new Italian word. Man, good ol’ Edwin must be bilingual or something. Man of many talents. And wow ‘dollars’ is all in caps! That draws my attention even more. This has certainly got to be on the level. I won’t even bother checking Snopes to verify the validity of this claim. Hello easy street. I read on.

Wait a minute. 19 FUCKING MILLION DOLARS??? Left to me by a total stranger? Boy o boy, today is my lucky day. I will never have to work again. Imagine the luck. Ha ha ha, you readers are fucking loooooserssss. I can tell you now I hated entertaining your pathetic asses for so long. I’m outta here. You common Joes can slave away at your menial jobs as I lavish in the lap of luxury. I never know luxury before, but I will find its lap now.

I am so sad to hear about this plane crash, Edwin. But pony up the bucks, huh? Maybe we can step up from this nail polish of a (coconut) rum we swill down every weekend to numb our fears. And Edwin, thanks so much for your diligence to go through the deceased file. And I like the way you spell honor with a ‘u’. Very classy, and makes me hard to doubt you. After that, you kinda start using some big words that I don’t really understand. So that means you are more highly evolved than myself, and I pay rapt attention to the rest of your unsolicited email.

Wait, wait, wait. I see now you are throwing numbers around. I did not know math would be involved. Lemme check this again. WAIT A MINUTE MOTHERFUCKER. You get 55% fucking per cent. O wait a minute, fo shizzle. You reach out to me, dangle a carrot, and tell me you get 55%? For what? Sending me an email? With no pornographic attachments? Jackass, I get better emails every day from my fantasy football leagues. You gotta work harder. Edwin, I am starting to doubt you now. “Pioneer of the business”? Hey, let’s check the ego at the door. I am really starting to not like you, and your 55% cut.

If I read this right-keeping in mind I am drinking nail polish-I get only 10%? O no, no, no. 10% of 19 million dollars is…is..fuck, where’s the Goddamn calculator….is..gazintas…195,000? Whoa, Edwin, it seems I am getting the shaft here. You tell me there’s 19.5 mil just hanging out there for me, and my cut is 195,000? Again, I am no math major, but even a meth major will tell me I am getting royally screwed here. Hello? One of my relatives I never even knew existed just died here. How about a little pity here? I am sure poor old Uncle Miltie or poor old Aunt Hildie worked long and hard to bequeath me this fantastic sum of money. Back off, vulture!

My short term interest is still aroused, and your email is perfect at a scant 4 paragraphs, so I continue reading, as I burn twenties to see my already lit PC screen. Wait a minute, my measly 10% bank account will also bear your name? OK, I don’t really feel comfortable about this now, Ed. I mean, once I get my 195,000, it’s gone to pay the mortgage, credit cards and certain loans from the ‘Italian-American’ club. And what’s this about the “less privileged”? Hey fucker, I haven’t had a real job in over a year, so I can’t say there are much “less privileged” than me. Motherless babies? Um, wait a minute, how does this happen? Fatherless babies, yea. But ‘motherless’? Ya know, Edwin, I am starting to doubt your claims. Cheat or disappoint you? Ah, Edwin, if that is in fact your real name, you, sir are starting to disappoint me. But you have 1 more paragraph to go, so let’s see if you can win me over.

I see you claim to be an insider at the bank, which is all well and good, but I can’t help than be a little troubled that you once again failed to capitalize “I”. Aside, I should send you all my personal info? Can I send you my Social Security number as well? What about my bank account number? You want my mom’s maiden name as well? Which, by the way is Queterfilgianowisccz. Damn, I sure could use the 195 grand.

Alright, Eddie-and I assume since we will be in business together I can call you that-you got me .I am sure if will have to send you a princely amount for some sort of handling or some such. That’s more than worth it to get the 195 Gs. Today is my lucky day.

Bonus Material
Commentary
Yes, the above is a legit email that I got from one of my varied email accounts. This is one of the most sarcastic posts I have done in a while, and better yet, I think you all know that. My favorite joke is the “MySpace page barely no one reads”. I’ve buzzogged this post as it’s gone on, which is a few hours now (it’s 2:24 AM right now)And I had to check conveniently and authenticity through dictionary.com because I fucked up my spelling of them so bad.

Real Work

(Originally written 2/29/8)

OK, I wasn’t going to buzzog uh, er, write-tonight. But I have a wealth of new material, and I didn’t go to the gym or walk the dog tonight. I thought I would try to even the karmic scale by entertaining you, my loyal internet friends.

This week I started another job. And by “another job” I mean another short term, on again off again, totally out of my element. This week I started helping my brother in law who is a contractor. That’s right, we kill people. I keed, I keed. He calls me up over the weekend and tells me he could use an extra pair of hands for the next few days. For the record, he didn’t say he needed skilled hands. As I told him, “I am not your man to build anything important. You don’t want me building a staircase or crib. I’m all about destruction and general mayhem.” I point newer readers to my posts of last summer about the true hell that was redoing my bathroom. Yes, it’s not my thing. But it is a check. It keeps me busy and active. So busy, in fact, that I come home feeling like a broken old man. But I am getting ahead of myself.

So he abides by my advice of keeping me away from anything that might harm the clients. First task: knock down a wall. Sweet. It turns out to be a bit more complex than it sounds. I learn that will be a recurring theme; it is almost always harder than it looks. First, they have to do the ‘real man’ work, so that relegates me to sissy stuff like sweeping and organizing. Whatever, it’s cool. Soon enough, demolition will be mine. I should say that there are two other people in the crew; Paul, my brother in law who should really know better than to ask me to get involved, and Mikey, his loyal assistant. I work most of the time with Mike. So Mike and Paul build a wall in like 2 seconds. God, this shit goes fast when you get professionals involved; I wish my bathroom moved as fast. Finally, it’s time to take hammer in hand, and wail the fuck away. Months of aggression in every blow. Frustration and anger spark every blow. What a release! My arms flail with the strength of a hundred men, and each strike wields a gaping hole. With every blow, more pent up aggression and disappointment are released. This is freaking great. I …can…do..this…all…day…Goddamn…I (deep breath in)….am..sure…(breath out, inhale again)…getting…tired.

Mr. Gym Rat gets fatigued after hammering for a mere 20 minutes. For the life of me, I can’t figure out how my shoulders get fatigued first. You would think it would be arms, but no, its’ both shoulders. It also doesn’t help that I am not a great hammerer. I have to use a chisel to separate the drywall from the studs. Paul has been doing this for like 30 years, he’s 3rd generation, total pro. This guy can not only hammer without looking where the hammer is hitting the chisel, he hits the chisel with the hammer sideways. To the novice, this would seem like no big deal. In fact, after he walked away, I tried it, and failed miserably. Lesson learned; don’t get a head of myself. Hammering through drywall is easy, but there’s cement board as well, which takes a bit more. No big deal, as this will keep me busy while they do the glamorous stuff.

I know my role here. Simple, unglamorous stuff. My tasks will be the repetitive stuff that frees up those guys to make some serious headway in the build. If I recall correctly, most of the first day was knocking down walls and sweeping up. Not too shabby. Towards the end of the day, I step back, just to see all that we accomplished. It’s actually pretty cool. We did a lot. Created a room for the washer and dryer to go into, knocked down a wall and other manly things that I can’t seem to recall. But it was cool to just be a small piece of the team that did so much. Remember, tools and home improvement is really not my strong suit at all. But to step back and see all the difference we made was very cool. Almost a sense of pride welled up within me. Now that is something I haven’t felt for quite a while.

Tuesday I lucked out. Monday night was the first of 2 nights with the Pat McGee Trio. I will rave about these guys in another post. Paul wasn’t sure if he would need me on Tuesday, so I would have to be a good boy. That really wasn’t too much of a problem. I have a newer sense of focus with a somewhat steady job for the next little while. The problem here is that I have had some pretty wicked, funny drunken escapades with PMB over the years. I recall a few late, late nights in State College, more than a few late nights/early mornings on South Street , staying up 24 hours in AC, most of these alcohol fueled. In fact, when they were here last, I believe we left them somewhere around 5 in the morning to careen home. And I did something called ‘The Caveman’, as percussionist Chardy asked about right away on Monday. What ‘The Caveman’ is totally beyond me, it was “Drunk Kev’s” idea of fun. I had it in my head to be a good boy, and only had a few beers Monday night. In my mind, that justified staying out “late” with them. Late of course, meaning 1:45 (because I guess 2 Am would be far too late). I learned something the hard way Tuesday morning after getting in at 2:45; man, am I outta shape for this these days. That’s what I write it off to. When I was working regularly, my body was on a sched and could handle it. Generally my body is still on a sched, but throw in an earlier wake up time (6 instead of 7ish), and a full day doing destruction, I was out of shape. No, it’s certainly not that I am getting older. No, that’s not it at all. Paul calls and thankfully doesn’t need me. I put the phone down, and doze off for another 3 hours. I wasn’t hungover in the least, just fucking tired. Tues was another show with PMB, and I knew I had to work the next morning, so I took it easy, and those guys split relatively early. Bullet dodged.

Time for drink #2 of the post. I just went up to make myself another freshie, and Bauer was like “yo, dude, what the fuck? Are we gonna go for a walk? Or play? Seriously, what’s the deal here? Throw a ball or something.” So you guys better appreciate this.

I would walk into day 2 a bit smarter, though. I learned a few things after day 1. The biggest thing I learned was I am a fucking pussy. I look at Mikey and Paul as real guys. They do real work. Real hard, physical, demanding, dirty, strenuous work. They don’t wear fucking flip flops and board shorts. They wear jeans and those jeans tell a story by all the dirt that’s on them at the end of the day. They look at the next impossible task (by my means), put their heads down, and get it done. They’re real men. And apparently real men these days do next to nothing to protect themselves. Protective eye wear? Ppfftttt, not on your life, sally. Kneepads, even though the van is full of them? No, they’re for decoration, patsy. Next to these guys, I am prissy. I am a wuss. I am a girly man. I am not worthy of the work boots I wear. That’s totally OK, I get that, in fact I agree with that.

I’m gonna puss out. I bring knee pads (shaddup) and protective glasses. I can’t tell you how many times on Monday that I was hammering something, and debris flew right out at my eyes like it was fucking laser-guided. I wear contacts, and I swear, my eyes are like sponges. I could feel grit getting and staying in my eyes. I also did a lot of bending/kneeling down on Monday. I’ve had one major knee operation, I’ll be damned if I need 2. So I show up all ‘bubblewrap’. Wednesday is another day to knock walls down, 3 in fact. It’s me and Mikey. So we’re hammering away. And it hits me. No, not his hammer. It hits me that this is pretty fricking cool. Here are total strangers that are paying me to come into their house and knock down walls. C’mon, that’s pretty fucking sweet. I told Mikey, “You know, if my parents told me that they were going to remodel and take down some walls, I would gladly be doing this for free instead of paying Paul.” In the morning, we take down walls. I mean, I am going all Cops, and literally taking a 2 step start, and kicking through walls. Glorious. Drywall shatters and goes everywhere. Yea, it sucks to clean it up, but it’s well worth it. It’s a good morning. Too bad the afternoon will follow.

Oh vey, drink 2 of the post (#3 overall) this is so not a good sign, these coconut rum and cokes are going down way too easy.

It is decided that now that we have taken down 3 walls, it’s time to take up the floor of the entire area we are working in. Paul cuts down to the subfloor (i.e. the actual floorboards) and sees that there are 6 fucking levels of floor to go down through. I italicize that because he says this is the worst floor he’s ever seen. I did tell you he’s been doing this for like 100 years, right? This is not a good sign, this will be harder than it looks. So we grab these pry bars called wonderbars and hammers and get down to business. Me and Mikey have to hammer and cry-uh, pry, through all 6 levels to expose the subfloor. Here’s the problem. 1) There are entirely too many fucking nails and staples down to make this easy. 2) One of the lowest levels is plywood that splinters easily. 3) One of the layers is asbestos tile. OK, that’s more than one problem, but you see how this is going. So we get on hands and knees to hammer away. We’re doing this for a few minutes. Then it hits me; since we’re hammering and splitting through asbestos, we should be wearing masks. Again, I point out how Mike is a real guy. No mask, happily hammering away like a monkey. Um, a monkey that likes to hammer. He doesn’t care about inhaling asbestos. Ha, he probably mocks it. He probably breathes it in first thing in the morning, just to get it over with.

I suggest we get masks. Now, I am sure that the masks offer little actual protection. But he gets them. So there’s me; gloves on, kneepads on, glasses on. He just has a mask on. I am a dork. Soon, it becomes evident that my hot breath is escaping the mask and getting into my glasses which fogs them up. Goddamn it, I can’t get a break. I take the glasses off (cough, nancy, cough) and resume inhaling toxic dust. I admit that this weirds me out. I don’t consider myself a germaphobe. But I guess I do have something about being exposed to possibly hazardous elements. Everyone knows that one person who is uber-healthy; runs, works out, never smokes or drinks. And-BAM!-they get lung cancer and are dead inside of a week. I don’t want that to be me. But my cautious / worry side gets the better part of me, and all kinds of weird shit runs through my empty head.

This floor is a fucker to get up. It hard to get the bars all the way underneath to pry it up. There’s so many Goddamned nails and staples, it like they used a machine gun to nail all this shit down. I tell Mikey I swear right now there are 2 80 year old floor guys on the beach in Florida laughing their asses off because they know someone has to take this floor up. This floor is fighting us like Paris Hilton fights true talent. My ‘hammering blister’ I earned from Monday is ready to pop anew, but yet I hammer away. The room is full of (toxic) dust. I know I breathe it, I can feel it sticking in my eyes. Finally, somehow, we clear the space. It was not easy, we are worn down for sure, but we prevailed. Now we gotta shovel this shit into trash cans, and let the night breeze poison the rest of the neighborhood. Christ, there’s so many rusty nails and staples, you have to watch it. I am sore. No way I’m going to the gym. But we did the job. The real payoff was when the wife came home to see what we did on the house. She came in and said, “Wow, I can see you guys did a ton of work today.” That was gratifying to me, one of the more gratifying things I have heard in a while. I really appreciated that she came in, checked things out, and really liked the progress she saw. It made me feel good, which is sorely needed these days. I had that quiet feeling inside that she was really ignorant of all the obstacles we faced that day. It made me appreciate our bathroom a bit more.

What the fuck? Where did that last drink go? Is it really empty already? Man, I gotta be up in nine and a half hours…nine…and a half…long ..hours…hmm…that’s plenty of time to recoup. Plus these drinks are mostly Diet Coke and ice. Yea, that’s the ticket. Plenty of time until tomorrow. Plenty. And use lots of ice this time.

So today is an earlier start (7 AM? Really, do people work this early?) to meet at Paul’s shop. From there we got to another job. So there me and Mikey are, driving. We are on a fairly big area highway (309 for all you locals). As we whiz along, I look off to the side, and see guys, real guys, already at work. It’s 7:15 on a pretty cold morning, and we pass a building with guys already on top; hard hats, boots-the whole deal. I feel a certain-if fleeting-kinship with these real guys. Most people-girls and girly guys-are still doing their make-up. But here are 2 brave and noble warriors, getting ready to face the impossible and make it possible again. The morning is actually kinda cake. We go to another job, load the truck with trash, and do some general pisant stuff waiting for a delivery from Home Depot. Long story short, in a very un-Tony Stewart like performance, Home Depot is late. We dump that off on the electricians, and we’re off to the dump.

Right, I know what you’re thinking. “Seriously, Kev, you’re going to try to entertain me with tales from the dump?” Yes, yes I am. Maybe it’s a challenge, maybe it’s a sign of just how far I’ve fallen. Either way, you’re still reading. If you’re like me, you envision the dump as being an outside kind of thing. Wrong. This dump is inside. The building reminds me of a small airplane hangar. So you drive up, and are magically weighed. I mean a guy in a tux, comes out, pulls a rabbit out of his hat, and then tells you how much your truck weighs. OK, not really. You drive up to an embedded scale, wait for a light to change, then go wait in line. This is fucking cake, because there’s almost always a line. We’re getting paid to wait. There are all kinds of trucks waiting. Big rigs than can dump their load (uh huh huh) and smaller contractor trucks that have to do it manually. Inside this “hangar” there are two big cranes and one smaller ‘bearcat’. These guys help unload the trucks or scoop the trash off to the side into waiting flatbed trucks. It’s almost like watching dinosaurs feed. To me, the newbie, it’s oddly fascinating. Mikey starts coming to life, telling me tales of the dump. It’s our turn, we pull in, drop the gate of the truck and just start throwing and kicking shit off the truck. It’s kinda therapeutic. Inside, it smells, and I have a very poor sense of smell, so it must fucking reak. There are employees waking around in neon green vests, masks and protective ear wear. Man, I thought the jobs I had sucked. The dump makes a mint off selling metal, so the bearcat and employees go through, hunting for metal. Not only metal, when we were there, we saw a TV (with remote), keyboard and laptop that was pulled from the trash. I was convinced that the laptop had to be full of kiddie porn. We ended up going twice today. The second time, I was looking up at the rays of sun filtering through. It was almost like looking through a fog, there was so much shit in the air. It couldn’t be healthy, and we were dumping the asbestos off.

We go back to the job. By this time, it’s well past 1, so it’s lunch time. We eat in the work van. Yea, how shitty is your break room? I am eating so quick, I develop hiccups. There, I am, covered in spare bits of lunch meat, goatee covered in other lunch remnants, hiccupping like Jabba the Hutt. My task for the day? Take up another section of the floor. This time, I am chiseling off the area where the washer and dryer will go. In essence, not hard, just time consuming and again on all fours. The chisel I am using seems so small in comparison to the area I have to chisel up. But at least it’s immediate. I can see the change I am effecting. I really wanted to go to the gym tonight, but 2 rounds of chiseling floor up will kill the hardiest of souls I believe. So it’s me, the PC, downstairs, watching the Cryers earn a rare victory, listening to all Pat McGee Band stuff on my iTunes app.

The fingers I type with (and constantly fucking misspell with) are weathered. Blistered, nicked, cut, poked, cracked and dry. These are the hands of a real worker. Sure, when I was doing the music thing, I was very aware that the bands I worked with/for might very well play someone’s wedding song/prom song/ “our song” type of thing. But with doing a remodel, what I’m doing now will likely far outlive that, and outlive me. That’s gratifying. In the meantime, if I hear word that the owners want to remodel over the stuff we are doing now, I will show up at their front doorstep with Freddy Krueger gloves to persuade them otherwise.

I would be kidding to say I wasn’t sore. I would be kidding to say I’m not in a bit over my head. Paul loves to bust our chops. No matter what we do, his first response it always “That’s it?” I think he’s kidding most of the time. I would be kidding to say I’m not humbled. I would be kidding to say I am not a bit proud. I at least like the idea my wife is married to someone who actually has a meaningful job, even if it’s only a few days here and there.

Tomorrow I know we rip up more of the floor. But Paul says it shouldn’t be as hard as it was yesterday. Again, I recite that things are harder than they look. I swear he says shit to prop us up. “O, c’mon guys, this will be easy.” A few hours later, after it clearly wasn’t easy, he will say “yea, this was harder than I thought.” Tomorrow night, my 5 and fucking 0 Wings play, so I will get my ya-ya’s out there. Then, Saturday, sweet, sweet Saturday. My working man ass will be sleeping in. Hitting the noon puppy play time is out the window. Sleep late, drag my flabby ass to the gym to workout the least sore muscle group, then food shop for hopefully another almost full week of work. There will be a full bottle of rum in our future. Fuck this Sunday running BS with A&J. I have an interview Monday, then depending, probably more real work. Maybe even a real job.

All right, this marathon post is almost over. In fact, it should be over. But right now, we’re bordering on 6 full pages of Kevolution Theory goodness. Perhaps that directly correlates with my 6+ drinks so far. I didn’t plan to drink this much (yea, when’s the last time I said that) or write this much. I will have to check to see if this is the longest post I have ever done. Fuck that, I am too lazy, so I will just proclaim this the longest post I buzzogged. Man, this buzzogging thing might be the way to go. I see now why all the great writers had alcohol/chemical problems. It’s all OK, I still have 8 and a half hours before work. Plenty of time. And plenty of time for one more night cap. Then make lunch for tomorrow-quick who wants a jelly and turkey sandwich? Aw fuck, time to re-edit, catch all the fucking typos. Did I mention that I have a splinter in one of my main typing fingers? No, of course not, because I have grown hard core. Remember, by the time you are reading this tomorrow, I will probably be putting the WEA in weary. Always suffering for my art.

That’s it. Right now, Mike and Paul are hours into their sleep, whilst I am up, typing with splinter-ridden fingers for your meager enjoyment. F this shit, I am outta here.
